How to filter results by appointment type

The federal government classifies jobs by appointment type. There are many appointment types including permanent, temporary and appointments geared towards students. You can filter your results by one or more appointment types.

  1. Scroll down to the Appointment type filter and select the plus sign to show the options.
  2. You can filter your results using one or more of the following selections.

A job with multiple appointment types usually means there is more than one position they are filling and the appointment types may vary.

Permanent appointments have no set time limit and include:

  • Career-conditional—Most federal employees are hired under this appointment. It means you must complete a one-year probationary period and three years of continuous service to move to a career appointment.

Some examples include veterans, individuals with disabilities, current or former federal employees, Peace Corp or AmeriCorps volunteers or direct hire positions.
